Workshop on Vermi Composting

Bokakhat, May 20, 2024:

            A day-long workshop on vermicompost preparation was held at Chandra Nath Bezbarua College, Bokakhat today. The workshop was conducted as part of the Environmental Education Program under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India and Assam Council of Science, Technology and Environment. The program was inaugurated by the principal of the college Dr. Surjit Dutta.

            In his inaugural speech, the principal Dr. Dutta said that the use of excessive chemicals and fertilizers in the agricultural sector is a serious threat to human health. In this context, it is essential to grow vegetables at home by producing bio-fertilizer at home ourselves. He urged the students to understand the process of this bio-fertilize manure production.

            The workshop was moderated by Sonjib Borah, Coordinator, Environment and Climate Cell of the college. Dr. Apurba Saikia, Microbiologist, District Level Laboratory, Public Health Engineering Department, Golaghat delivered a speech as a resource person in the first session. The second session Dr. Minuara Begum, Retd.

            Professor, Department of Zoology, DKD College, Dergaon delivered her speech. She also performed a hands-on-training to the participants regarding preparation of vermi composting bed, production process of the bio-manure etc.  Hundreds of students from various schools of Bokakhat participated in the workshop.
