“Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies  that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become.”

– C.S. Lewis

“I tell my students, it’s not difficult to identify with somebody like yourself, somebody next door who looks like you. What’s more difficult is to identify with someone you don’t see, who’s very far away, who’s a different colour, who eats a different kind of food. When you begin to do that then literature is really performing its wonder.”

– Chinua Achebe

An enjoyment and appreciation of literature will give students the ability to develop this into an interest in books and reading as they move away from their studies and into their adult lives. They will have the confidence to approach and tackle new forms of books and writing, since they were exposed to a range of literature during their college days.

The English Department of CNB College, Bokakhat from its very dawn in 1995 has been adhering to this task of building interest among the students towards literature – towards books and reading. the department has been taking remarkable steps to develop among students the conversational skill along with the writing skill. English language and science education for higher studies can not be set apart. This language helps them to enrich themselves from the writings of  many foreign writers and foreign university’s libraries. Having a mastery over this language will always enhance the students to overcome all kinds of hindrances they might face in the field of science education.

The Department encourages the students in creative writing and personality building. Literary competition like poetry recitation, spot writing, extempore speech are organized among the students from time to time.

The Department is dedicated to the cause of the students and will always try to be a source of inspiration for the students.

Long live CNB College.
